Where we are
FROM THE LOVE FOR AFRICA TO A FRIENDSHIP, TO A LONG LASTING PARTNERSHIP THAT IS GOOD FOR EVERYBODY.
"It was 2007 when I first met Arnold, he was operating from a 1 sqm shop on green market in Cape Town."
This is how Paul, co-founder and director, would start the story of Africanas. He was passionate about Africa and invested all his travels in visiting the continent, but the moment that changed his views and perspectives was when he met his current partner and shoemaker Arnold.
Arnold, a young shoemaker from Zimbabwe had just arrived to Cape Town and started his own shoemaking business. With a lot of skills and heart, but few means he was struggling to manufacture and find customers at the same time.
Paul was a recurrent customer and over time he became friend with Arnold, he started thinking of how he could generate more orders for the young and talented shoemaker. After collecting different hundreds of orders for Arnold, they both realised that they became business partners and started planning what today is Africanas.
CAPE TOWN WAS NOT ONLY THE PLACE PAUL AND ARNOLD MET FOR THE FIRST TIME,
but it used to be an important hub in the shoes manufacturing. The city offered everything our young company needed to start its production: the tannery, sole manufacturers, lasting equipment and last but not least skilled shoemakers looking for employment. Cape Town is also a hub of creative people; designers, photographers and artists of all kind mingle in the city creating an environment that inspires young businesses.
